Why Inclusive Education Matters
Children learn in different ways, at different speeds and with different strengths.
Inclusive education recognises these differences and aims to remove unnecessary barriers to learning and participation.
Our approach is based on the belief that disability should never mean exclusion from opportunities to learn, play and belong.
For additional professional guidance, teachers can explore the New Zealand Ministry of Education's Inclusive Education Guides . These provide strategies and guidance for supporting diverse learners in schools.
Inclusive Education NZ is an independent charity initiative and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Ministry of Education.
Developed by a New Zealand Disability-Led Charity
Inclusive Education NZ is an initiative of Children with Disability NZ, a New Zealand registered charity (CC59148).
Our charity is guided by lived experience of disability and a commitment to creating a more inclusive society.
Our founder, Glen McMillan, lives with significant disabilities and uses a wheelchair. His own experiences of barriers to participation and opportunity have helped shape the charity's work and its commitment to inclusion.
Inclusive Education NZ has been developed through considerable voluntary effort, technical knowledge and a belief that education can open doors for every child.
We may be a small charity with limited financial resources, but our ambition is to help children across New Zealand discover the enjoyment and possibilities of learning.
