About Inclusive Education NZ

Helping Children Grow Up Understanding Disability and Inclusion

Inclusive Education NZ creates children's stories, downloadable learning resources and disability awareness materials designed to make inclusion part of everyday learning.

Our resources are created for children, families, teachers, schools and organisations looking for positive and practical ways to talk about disability, difference, accessibility, kindness and belonging.

We want children to encounter disabled characters, different ways of communicating and different ways of participating as a natural part of the stories and learning materials they experience.

Disability should not feel unusual to children. It should be an ordinary and accepted part of the world they grow up understanding.

What We Are Trying to Achieve

Inclusive education is about more than providing resources for disabled children. It is also about helping all children understand that people experience the world in different ways.

Normalise Disability

We create stories and resources where disability can be part of everyday life rather than something that always needs to be explained as unusual or different.

Encourage Inclusion

Our resources encourage children to think about friendship, participation, accessibility, fairness and what helps everyone feel that they belong.

Support Learning

We provide resources in different formats so teachers, families and children can choose materials that suit different situations and ways of learning.

Inclusive Resources in Different Formats

Children do not all learn in the same way. Our growing collection uses different formats to make resources easier to use at home, in classrooms and in community settings.

Children's Stories

Stories featuring relatable characters and positive themes around friendship, difference, participation and belonging.

Flipbooks & Audiobooks

Digital reading and listening options give children different ways to experience stories and educational content.

Printable PDFs

Downloadable resources give teachers and families practical materials that can be used for learning, discussion and disability awareness activities.

Why This Matters in Schools

Children should not have to wait until a disabled classmate arrives before they begin learning about disability and accessibility.

Introducing these ideas naturally through stories, classroom resources and discussion can help make disability more familiar and encourage children to recognise that people may move, communicate, learn or participate differently.

Our aim is to give teachers useful resources that support these conversations in positive, respectful and age-appropriate ways.

An Initiative of Children with Disability NZ

Inclusive Education NZ is an initiative of Children with Disability NZ.

The project reflects our commitment to creating resources that encourage inclusion and help children grow up with a greater understanding of disability, accessibility and belonging.

By developing resources that can be used by children, families, teachers and schools, we hope to help make inclusive thinking part of children's everyday learning.
