Why Practise Vowels?

The letters A, E, I, O and U are vowels. Vowel letters can represent different sounds, and some sounds can be spelled in more than one way.

This can make English spelling challenging. Practising vowel patterns can help learners recognise familiar words and strengthen spelling knowledge.

Helpful learning tips:

  • Listen carefully to the whole word.
  • Say the word aloud if that helps.
  • Look at the letters before and after the gap.
  • Use the hint whenever you need it.
  • Repeat words to strengthen familiarity.

This game provides extra practice and is intended to complement structured literacy teaching, not replace it.
