Sensory Sensations Flipbooks
Interactive Stories That Help Children Explore Their Senses
The Sensory Sensations flipbook collection helps children explore how our senses work and how different people may experience the world in different ways.
At Inclusive Education NZ, we use child-friendly stories, pictures and simple explanations to make sensory learning interesting, accessible and easy to understand.
These interactive flipbooks can help children learn about hearing, smell, proprioception, taste, sight and touch while encouraging curiosity about their own sensory experiences and those of other people.
Learning About Sensory Differences Through Stories
Read and Explore
Interactive flipbooks combine words and pictures in an easy-to-follow digital format that children can explore on computers, tablets and other devices.
Understand Different Experiences
Children can learn that some people may experience sound, touch, movement, taste, smell or visual information more strongly or less strongly than others.
Encourage Understanding
Learning about sensory differences can help children better understand the behaviour, preferences and needs of classmates, friends and family members.
Sensory Resources for Schools and Classrooms
Sensory Sensations flipbooks can be used by teachers, learning support staff, families and community organisations as an introduction to sensory awareness and inclusive learning.
Teachers may use the flipbooks during classroom reading, group discussion, health and wellbeing learning, disability awareness activities or lessons exploring the human body and senses.
They can also help explain why one child may cover their ears in a noisy room, another may seek movement, or someone else may avoid particular textures, smells or foods.
Helping Children See Difference as Part of Everyday Life
Build Sensory Awareness
Understanding our senses gives children useful language for describing what they experience and how different environments make them feel.
Support Inclusion
When children understand that sensory needs can differ, conversations about quieter spaces, movement breaks and other adjustments become easier and more natural.
Normalise Sensory Differences
Sensory differences are part of human diversity. Helping children understand this early can reduce misunderstanding and encourage empathy, acceptance and belonging.
