How Sound Match Helps
Words are made up of speech sounds. In reading and spelling, we learn to connect these sounds with letters and groups of letters.
For example, the letters sh represent the beginning sound in ship.
Helpful ways to practise:
- Listen to the example word more than once.
- Say the word aloud if that helps.
- Pay attention to the beginning or middle sound.
- Use a hint or reveal the answer when needed.
- Try the same level again to build familiarity.
The activity supports sound-to-letter learning, but it is not a replacement for explicit, systematic literacy instruction.
Browser-generated speech is used for the audio. Pronunciation can vary by device and voice, so an adult or teacher may sometimes need to model a sound.
