Learning to Build Sentences

Sentences are made from words arranged in a meaningful order. Listening and arranging words can help children practise language, sequencing and sentence structure.

Helpful strategies:

  • Listen to the whole sentence first.
  • Listen again if you need to.
  • Find the first word and build from there.
  • Read the sentence you have created.
  • Use hints whenever they help.

This activity complements structured literacy teaching and provides a relaxed way to practise sentence order.
