Sensory Sensations Audiobooks

Listen, Learn and Explore the Senses

The Sensory Sensations audiobook collection gives children another way to explore how our bodies experience the world.

At Inclusive Education NZ, we believe learning should be available in different formats. These audio resources allow children to listen to clear, child-friendly explanations about hearing, smell, proprioception, taste, sight and touch.

Audiobooks can be especially useful for children who prefer listening, find reading difficult or tiring, benefit from spoken information, or simply enjoy learning through sound and storytelling.

Children learn in different ways. Offering sensory information through audio can help more children participate, understand and enjoy learning.

Accessible Sensory Learning Through Listening

Learn Through Sound

Listening allows children to focus on spoken explanations and ideas without needing to concentrate on printed text.

Support Different Learners

Audio resources can support children with different reading abilities, learning preferences and communication needs while providing another way to access the same information.

Understand Sensory Differences

Children can learn that people may experience sounds, touch, movement, tastes, smells and visual information differently.

Sensory Audiobooks for Schools and Families

Sensory Sensations audiobooks can be used in classrooms, homes, early learning environments and community settings as part of sensory education and inclusive learning.

Teachers can use the audio resources for group listening, independent learning, quiet-time activities, health and wellbeing lessons, disability awareness or discussions about how different children experience the same environment.

Families can also listen together and use the recordings as a starting point for conversations about sensory preferences, sensitivities and the different ways people respond to the world.

Helping Children Understand Everyday Sensory Experiences

Build Awareness

Children can begin to recognise how their own senses respond to different sounds, textures, movements, smells, tastes and visual environments.

Encourage Empathy

Understanding that someone else may experience the same environment differently can encourage greater patience, empathy and acceptance.

Make Difference Ordinary

Sensory needs and preferences are part of human diversity. Talking about them openly helps make those differences an ordinary part of children's understanding of each other.
